The Azamor 2006 is a specially crafted blend of classic French and Portuguese grape varieties. Each selected parcel of fruit is fermented and matured separately with the final blend created just prior to bottling.
Percentage of varieties: 24% Touriga Franca, 24% Merlot, 13% Touriga Nacional, 16% Trincadeira, 10% Syrah, 10% Alicante Bouschet, 3% Petit Verdot
Harvest: The 2006 harvest started on the 21st of August and finished on the 25th of September. For the first time the harvest decision was made entirely on grape favour and aroma for maturity levels, because of the extremely difficult growing season. In general the hand picked grapes had higher alcohol levels.
Fermentation: All grape varieties were fermented in separate stainless steel 10 ton tanks for up to 10 days from between 22șc to 24șC. The fermented must was left on skins before being pressed and before going through malolatic fermentation.
Aging: The Azamor 2006 wine was aged for 7 months in our cellars, in French and American Oak Barrels, and the remainder in stainless steel tanks.
Blending & Release: Blending took place in June 2008, and the blended wine was bottled in August 2008.
Weather Conditions: The 2006 season was one of the most difficult yet. 2005 was marked by drought and the 350mm rainfall was not sufficient to replenish the water table. This together with a three week hot spell in July, resulted in very concentrated grapes.
